With a class win as well as a top-five result in the overall classification, Car Collection Motorsport was able to put an exclamation mark on the final round of the Nürburgring Endurance Series one more time. Florian Spengler and Markus Winkelhock in the Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II won the Pro-Am class and also achieved a very good fifth place overall.
For Florian Spengler, it was the first race ever this year and thus his return to motorsport after taking time out for personal reasons. Together with his long-time partner and Audi Sport driver Markus Winkelhock, he started for Team Car Collection Motorsport in the season finale of the Nürburgring Endurance Series to fight for a podium position in the Pro-Am class.
Already in qualifying on Saturday morning, the driver duo was able to put the Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II on a very good third starting position in the Pro-Am class, which also meant seventh overall. At the start, Florian Spengler got into a tough battle with some opponents, as a result of which the Car Collection driver had to serve a penalty in the form of a Penalty Lap. Irrespective of this, both drivers delivered a clean race with top lap times and were able to advance to the top of the class again in very good weather conditions. In the end, Spengler and Winkelhock won with a clear lead of more than four minutes over the runners-up. In the overall standings, they finished in a very good fifth place, ahead of numerous much higher-rated pro cars.
For Florian Spengler it was a very successful comeback. Car Collection Motorsport successfully fielded both the Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II and the Porsche 911 GT3 R on the Nürburgring Nordschleife this season. For next season, Peter Schmidt’s team is again planning entries in the NLS. In addition to the GT3 cars, the team will also offer driver seats on a new Porsche 992 GT3 Cup in order to expand the program below the top SP9 class.
